Afonydd Cymru was formed in 2008 as an umbrella organisation to represent member river trusts across Wales with Natural Resources Wales and Welsh Government. On the 30th January 2012 we received charitable status (no. 1145675).
We also champion Wales’s thirty-three rivers, its many lakes and smaller watercourses whose environment, fish and fisheries and the wide range of diverse species depend on clean water and unspoilt habitats.
Our objectives are:
Contribute to the improvement to overall river quality.
An expanded and more effective Afonydd Cymru and rivers trust movement in Wales with a long-term, sustainable funding base.
Advocate to eliminate the current high levels of water pollution.
Influence and challenge relevant legislation, policy and practice to protect and enhance Wales’s freshwater environment.
Raise public awareness of rivers and the work of the rivers trust movement in Wales.
