Der Verein Angewandte Informatik Karlsruhe e.V. (AIK) ist ein Forum für einen lebendigen Gedankenaustausch zwischen Lehre, Forschung und Wirtschaft zu Themen der Informatik sowie der Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien in ihren innovativen Auswirkungen auf Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft. Er fördert als organisatorische Basis ein intensives Miteinander von Wirtschaft und Hochschulen.
Der Verein wurde 1996 von Absolventen und Mitarbeitern des Instituts für Angewandte Informatik und Formale Beschreibungsverfahren (AIFB) der Fakultät für Wirtschaftswissenschaften der Universität Karlsruhe (inzwischen Karlsruher Institut für Technologie) gegründet. Er ist dem Institut AIFB nach wie vor eng verbunden. Zur Zeit hat der AIK e.V. etwa 160 Mitglieder.
In regelmäßig stattfindenden Symposien greift der AIK e.V. aktuelle Themen der Informatik auf. Namhafte Referenten aus Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft stellen in Vorträgen neue Entwicklungen vor. In fachlicher Diskussion werden die Themen sowohl aus der Sicht der Wissenschaft, als auch der Sicht der Wirtschaft betrachtet und diskutiert. Themen für solche Symposien sind zum Beispiel “Web 3.0”, “Cloud Computing” oder “Green Software”.
Der wirtschaftlich-wissenschaftliche Dialog ist für beide Seiten fruchtbar. Die Wissenschaft bekommt durch die Diskussion Impulse aus der Praxis, die sie in praxisgerechte Forschung und Ausbildung umsetzen kann. Für die Wirtschaft stehen Information und Technologietransfer an erster Stelle. Die engen Kontakte zur Universität bieten zudem die Chance für Projekte, in denen komplexe Entwicklungsaufgaben gemeinsam von der Wirtschaft und der Wissenschaft angepackt werden.
