AIS Pensions LLP is a financial advice firm directly authorised by the FCA. The business was established by Jon Sheffield in 1983. Jon’s early career was as a Royal Navy Engineer. After leaving service Jon remained in engineering up to 1977 when he changed career to Financial Services; setting up his own business six years later as an Independent Financial Adviser. In the early 90s Jon was building his reputation as a pension guru: acting as Pensions Adviser for Mail on Sunday, writing the Annual FT Money Management Executive Pensions Handbook, and getting extensive press coverage in 1993 as a lone voice in support of the ‘hard disclosure’ of pension charges and adviser fees. In 1996 Jon was FT Money Management Financial Planner of the year, and this coincided with his 1996 Panorama lead on ‘The Great Pension Gamble’, where he exposed the ‘smoke and mirrors’ high charges of leading UK pension providers. AIS Pensions LLP now looks after the Pensions, ISAs, VCTs and General Investments Accounts of over 300 clients. With the majority of new clients coming from existing client referrals - AIS has no need to run a ‘sales’ team, and the much reduced costs are reflected in low client fees. AIS charge a modest new client ‘onboarding’ fee, but do not charge initial fees on money invested. Low charges, a strong performing Centralised Investment Proposition (CIP) and a dedicated personal service, has built strong client loyalty over four decades. High client retention has led to a slow but steady increase in funds under management, delivering security and benefit to both AIS and AIS clients. AIS advisers are salaried plus profit share. No new business targets are set for the adviser team and no sales incentives are applied; making it easy to follow our company ethos: ‘before making case for investing through AIS – first establish whether there is good case for changing existing arrangements’.
