Diawali dengan lahirnya GAFEKSI/INFA (Gabungan Forwarder dan Ekspedisi Seluruh Indonesia/Indonesian Forwarders Association) pada 25 Juli 1989 sebagai satu-satunya asosiasi yang mengembangkan industri jasa FF dan Kepabeanan di Indonesia.
INFA merupakan penggabungan tiga asosiasi yang ada sebelumnya, yaitu:
GAVEKSI adalah asosiasi yang melaksanakan pekerjaan angkutan laut dan jasa kepabeanan di pelabuhan, termasuk mengendalikan pergudangan pemerintah.
Bea Cukai, yang juga menjadi anggota FIATA
AEMPU adalah asosiasi yang melaksanakan pekerjaan jasa angkutan udara berikut jasa kepabeanannya, mendapat lisensi dari Direktorat Jenderal Perhubungan Udara dan Kantor Bea Cukai, serta menjadi anggota FIATA.
Pada Musyawarah Nasional Luar Biasa di Denpasar, Bali pada tahun 2010, sepakat untuk mengubah nama asosiasi menjadi ALFI/ILFA (Asosiasi Logistik dan Forwarder Indonesia / Indonesian Logistics & Forwarders Association).
