In 2011 is vanuit de universiteit van Michigan een instrument ontwikkeld dat buiten het lichaam aangestuurd wordt en binnen het lichaam alle graden van vrijheid bereikt. Met deze techniek is het mogelijk nauwkeurig en efficiënt laparoscopisch te hechten. Bij robot geassisteerde laparoscopische ingrepen wordt deze techniek al gebruikt maar het is zeer kostbaar en heeft een lange leercurve van operateur en operatie team.
Alphatron Surgical brengt een instrument dat functioneert als je eigen hand en makkelijk reageert op actie en gevoel van de operateur, met dit instrument worden hoge kosten en complexiteit vermeden. FlexDex is het minimaal invasieve instrument dat al deze voordelen biedt en door elke operateur, waar ook te wereld, bediend kan worden.
