Founded in 2000, altKitap is Turkey’s first and only e-book publisher. altKitap aims to create and distribute original and compelling literary and intellectual content online, free of charge, promoting innovative and thought-provoking texts and styles.
Through the creative use of multimedia technology, altKitap uses different media, e.g. hyperlinks and audio/video recordings, in its publications, taking advantage of the interdisciplinary nature of online publishing.
Since 2000, altKitap has published 61 original works, including novels, short stories, essays, film scripts, literary researches, experimental texts as well as academic tracts; the works have been authored by an eclectic range of writers, varying from the renowned to those being published for the first time. altKitap has also been organizing the prestigious Short Story Prize competition since 2006, introducing exceptional young writers to the literary scene each year. altKitap welcomes, on average, 400 unique visitors each day, with daily e-book downloads exceeding 100. In addition to publishing unsolicited submissions, altKitap also commissions works on specific subjects, and collaborates with institutions.
