Amref Health Africa ist die größte Gesundheits-NGO auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent. Mit Sitz in Nairobi, Kenia, arbeitet die Organisation seit 1957 an systemischen Verbesserungen im Gesundheitswesen in Afrika südlich der Sahara unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der sozialen und umweltbedingten Faktoren, welche die Gesundheit beeinflussen. Ziel ist der Zugang zu qualitativ hochwertiger Gesundheitsversorgung für alle Afrikaner*innen. Über die Länderbüros und viele Kooperationen mit Partnerorganisationen, vor allem auch im öffentlichen Gesundheitswesen, erreicht die Organisation mit ca. 2,000 Mitarbeitenden rund 20 Millionen Menschen pro Jahr direkt. Darüber hinaus betreibt Amref mit der Amref International University (AMIU) eine eigene Universität, die Menschen aus ganz Afrika in verschiedenen Berufen des Gesundheitswesens ausbildet und somit die Kapazitäten der lokalen Gesundheitssysteme weiter stärkt.
