Cameroon faces major climate challenges impacting over 70% of the population, whose livelihoods directly depend on agriculture.
Yet, national climate policies make little room for agroecology, an approach recognized by the IPCC for strengthening the resilience of food systems and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The National Alliance of Organizations on Climate Change and Sustainable Development (NAOCC 2D), along with other stakeholders, is advocating for better integration of agroecology into national strategies.
On October 23, 2024, a national advocacy workshop was held in Yaoundé, bringing together representatives from MINEPDED, MINEPIA, the Economic and Social Council, parliamentarians, researchers, and NGOs to promote an inclusive dialogue framework on climate and sustainable agriculture.
Among the recommendations from this meeting were:
✅ Strengthen agroecology in Cameroon’s climate policies.
✅ Raise awareness among rural populations about agroecological practices.
✅ Support the participation of civil society organizations in international climate negotiations.
✅ Facilitate access to funding for local initiatives.
Through this advocacy, we call for collective action to place agroecology at the heart of strategies to combat climate change in Cameroon. 🌱🌍
