ArtAsyl e.V. widmet sich der Integration von geflüchteten Menschen in Köln unter dem Leitgedanken „Kunst verbindet Kulturen“. Durch regelmäßig stattfindende Kurse und Aktionen im Bereich der Kunst – dazu gehört Malerei, Musik, Theater oder Kunsttherapie – soll geflüchteten Kindern und Jugendlichen das Ankommen in ihrer neuen Heimat erleichtert werden. Die Projekte unter Anleitung von Künstlerinnen und Künstlern dienen der Begegnung mit Gleichaltrigen und der Vermittlung kreativer Fähigkeiten. Sie schaffen Anknüpfungspunkte sowohl in der Schule, als auch der Freizeit und bieten zugleich Ablenkung vom oftmals tristen Alltag in den Geflüchtetenheimen. Das Medium der Kunst ist eine Sprache, die auch ohne Worte verstanden wird. Sie bietet Geflüchteten die Möglichkeit, Kontakte in einer noch fremden Heimat zu knüpfen, ohne dass eine Sprachbarriere ihnen im Wege steht. Auf diese Weise wird ein wichtiger Beitrag zur Integration geleistet, mit Kunst statt tausend Worten.
