Fondée en 1987, l’Association Emmanuel a pour conviction que tout enfant, quelles que soient ses déficiences ou ses difficultés, a droit à une famille aimante pour lui donner un nouveau départ dans la vie.
L’Association Emmanuel, l’Amour qui sauve cherche une réponse positive à l’incessante demande : « y a-t-il une famille pour cet enfant? ». Elle s’engage par divers moyens en faveur de l’adoption de tout enfant, peu importe sa ou ses particularités, pour lequel les services sociaux de l’État ne parviennent pas à trouver une famille adoptive.
L’Association remplit sa mission par les moyens suivants :
- Sensibiliser la population et les services sociaux au droit de tout enfant à une famille;
- Recruter et accompagner des familles disposées à se porter candidates pour l’adoption de tels enfants selon les lois et règlements en vigueur au Québec;
- Offrir un suivi post-adoption aux familles membres;
- Soutenir les « familles Emmanuel » par les moyens appropriés (ressourcements familiaux, rencontres d’échanges, d’entraide ou de formation, aide au répit, etc.)
- Contribuer au choix d’une société ouverte à la diversité.
L'Association Emmanuel siège également sur le comité de concertation en adoption du Québec, le COCON adoption. Par cette implication, l'Association s'assure que les enjeux entourant l'adoption soient discutés en société.
