The “Associação Avenida” was established in 2011, initially named “Associação Passeio Público”, inspired by the popular name of this part of the city, at the end of the 17th century, where the local elite would leisurely stroll along the tree-covered promenade.
Its members are retailers, hoteliers, restaurant operators, and entrepreneurs in the cultural and services sectors, who are based in Avenida da Liberdade or its immediate vicinity.
In 2020, in order to reflect the changing and more cosmopolitan nature of the Avenida, the board decided to change its name to “Associação Avenida”.
The purpose of the Associação is to provide a single voice to the many users and occupiers of Portugal’s most renowned and emblematic boulevard and to be a relevant speaking partner of the local authorities.
The Associação also seeks to enhance the experience and well-being of visitors and occupiers and to increase the footfall and thereby the commercial success of its members.
Today, the Associação is a thriving organisation, with a dedicated website and an active presence in the social media. Membership has doubled over the past year.
The Avenida is now firmly established as one of Europe’s top retail and leisure destinations, attracting visitors from all over the world, who value the choice of premium and luxury retail brands in a sophisticated yet friendly ambiance.
