BAPS was founded in March of 2024 for the purpose of promoting the major of systems engineering to students at the University of Virginia. Now with over 250 students involved, BAPS has transformed into a thriving service organization that employs systems thinking to solve problems within the UVA community. Through facilitating STEM-based projects with service organizations across Grounds, BAPS members have the opportunity to combine technical systems expertise with real-world service to others. By each member having the chance to be mentored by current systems engineering students within their project teams, the hope is also that BAPS members can get a sense of what systems engineers often do in their classes and careers, and that they will ultimately be inspired to 'become a problem-solver.'
