Founded in 2015, the Becker’s Laboratory of Critical Care Physiology and Emergency Medicine is a multidisciplinary research facility at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, part of Northwell Health. As one of the few labs globally exploring mitochondrial transplantation’s therapeutic potential, the Becker's Lab is advancing this innovative treatment to prevent damaged tissues in conditions like cardiac arrest and beyond.
Our lab has extensive expertise in preclinical models, particularly in the highly intricate cardiac arrest model, which has been a cornerstone of our research for the past decade. In recent years, along with cardiac arrest we’ve expanded our focus to include additional acute disease models such as stroke and hemorrhagic shock. we are currently expanding our scope to include additional disease models, such as Alzheimer's, Barth syndrome, and diabetic wound healing. The broader spectrum allows us to continue exploring mitochondrial engraftment therapies and improving treatment outcomes for these conditions.
Our lab has state-of-the-art facilities for both in vitro and in vivo studies .
Since its inception, the lab has trained numerous MD/PhD students, producing outstanding physician-scientists. Under the mentorship of Dr. Lance Becker, the lab is committed to excellence, pushing the boundaries of research to improve future patient outcomes while offering top-tier training for the next generation of scientists.
