BeClose was an innovative health tech company, founded in 2010, which promoted healthy, independent living through custom IoT hardware and AI-powered cloud services. From discreet wireless sensors placed in a residence, BeClose tracked daily routines with its data-driven backend AI, and alerted professional and informal caregivers, on their web and mobile devices, to abnormal events. Through independent research commissioned by Canadian provincial health authorities from New Brunswick to Alberta, and a CMS Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) grant, BeClose and its partners successfully demonstrated $1,200 to $5,000 monthly cost reductions per patient, with improved patient health and safety in aged populations with mobility and cognitive impairment. Furthermore, combining BeClose with an evidence-based health coaching model, BeClose and Brewster Place demonstrated a 79% reduction in hospital readmissions rate (3.8%) compared to 30-day all-cause readmissions (17.8%). These findings led to full reimbursement of our offering by numerous provincial health and Medicaid Waiver programs in Canada and the US, respectively. BeClose also partnered with high profile private payors, such as United Healthcare, and large providers, including Partners HealthCare and Dartmouth-Hitchcock health care system, to realize better care for individuals, better health for populations, and lower per capita cost. Frost & Sullivan recognized BeClose as one of the most significant innovations disrupting healthcare, and BeClose received coverage in TechCrunch, Fast Company, Gigaom, VentureBeat, The New York Times, CNN, NPR, and USA Today. Announced at CES in January 2014, BeClose merged with its technology partner and investor, Alarm.com, becoming Alarm.com Wellness.
