İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi’nin 250.yılında kurulan Bellatrix Uzay Takımı, ismini 250 ışık yılı uzaklıktaki Bellatrix yıldızından almaktadır. Bellatrix Uzay Takımı, İTÜ'de kapsamlı bir uzay ekosistemi kurmayı hedeflemektedir. Bu ekosistem kapsamında roverlar, roketler, uydular başta olmak üzere uzay teknolojileri üzerine çalışarak ulusal ve uluslararası yarışmalara katılmayı amaçlamaktadır. Bellatrix, İTÜ'de ve Türkiye'de uzaya ilgiyi artıracak, ulusal ve uluslararası uzay görevlerinde yer alacak nitelikli insanların yetişmesine katkı sağlayacaktır. Bu hedefler kapsamında Nisan 2024’de takım olarak Amerika'da NASA'nın kendi kampüsünde 30 yıldır düzenlediği NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge'a katılacaktır. HERC, NASA'nın kendisinin organize ettiği uluslararası öğrencilere açık olan tek yarışmasıdır. Bellatrix Uzay Takımı, NASA HERC’e kabul almayı başaran ilk ve tek Türk takımı ünvanını kazanmıştır.
The Bellatrix Space Team, established in the 250th year of Istanbul Technical University, takes its name from the Bellatrix star, which is located 250 light-years away. The Bellatrix Space Team aims to establish a comprehensive space ecosystem at Istanbul Technical University (ITU). Within this ecosystem, it aims to participate in national and international competitions by working on space technologies, including rovers, rockets, satellites, and etc. Bellatrix will contribute to increasing interest in space at ITU and in Türkiye and will contribute to the training of qualified individuals who will participate in national and international space missions. As part of these goals, in April 2024, as a team, they will participate in the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge, which has been organized for 30 years at NASA's own campus in America. HERC is the only competition organized by NASA itself and open to international students. The Bellatrix Space Team has achieved the title of being the first and only Turkish team to be accepted to NASA HERC.
