Belmont University’s Fast Forward program is teaming with educational partners, non-profit agencies, and employers to help expedite innovation in career-focused education and workforce development. The program is forging new alliances to design and implement small-scale, pilot programs to help more Nashvillians pursue and rapidly complete career-focused postsecondary education and training to improve education equity and economic mobility. Program efforts will support increased college-going and expedite postsecondary credential attainment for underserved students and underemployed adults.
The Fast Forward program also aspires to expedite the pace of innovation in the education and workforce development ecosystem while helping to fill workforce gaps in good, middle-skills jobs in Nashville. Program missions include:
1. Improving access to career counseling and short-duration, career-focused training programs, career services, and job placement support in order to rapidly boost the earning power of underemployed adults.
2. Providing a small cohort of diverse, underserved students at Hillsboro High School with a package of “braided” supports to increase their college-going, postsecondary credential attainment, career opportunities, and economic mobility.
3. Providing thought leadership, advocacy, and resource management to support innovation in the areas of education equity, workforce development, and economic mobility.
As pilot projects are proven effective, the Fast Forward program office will work with others to publicize program outcomes and work to inspire replication and scaling with the support of others. The program office team includes senior director Dr. Andy White and associate director Bridget Golden.
