BeyondGP arose in Primary Care Medicine - known as General Practice (GP) - in Australia in 2021. Our original vision was to go above and beyond what currently existed at that time in general medical practice, particularly in regard to ADHD and neurodiversity. That vision has now expanded to education and training for the whole community, not just the medical community. Working with "Lived Experience" collaborators who are an integral part of our courses, we help you get to know what ADHD "feels" like. Then you can start to recognize, and potentially assist and empower, people living with the condition. Who is BeyondGP suitable for? We are here to teach people about ADHD and Neurodiversity and how it impacts the lives of millions of people worldwide every day. Our courses are for everyone who may be searching for answers to the question “Could this be ADHD?”. As a result of our training you can begin to understand that ADHD manifests in many unexpected ways. Unless you learn how to recognise it, you will never understand what is underneath many "surface" encounters. This is particularly relevant to people such as teachers, employers, youth workers, emergency workers, first responders, partners and family members - in fact everyone! You might be very surprised to know that people such as driving instructors could recognize some of the major features of the condition very easily. This is because many people with ADHD have very “busy minds”. This can mean that they have trouble listening to, understanding and implementing instructions. You can imagine how this could play out when teaching someone how to drive a car on a busy road! That is why international thought leaders such as Professor Russ Barkley emphasize the importance of everyday people in the community being able to understand and recognize the condition in order to help sufferers and prevent adverse consequences.
