La Biblioteca del Real Consulado fue la primera Biblioteca Pública en establecerse en la ciudad de La Coruña bajo el amparo del “Real Consulado de Mar y Tierra” con el beneplácito del Rey Carlos IV, en 1803 y abierta al público en 1806. Nuestra fundación es la fundación cultural privada más antigua de España, inscrita el 31 de enero de 1807 en el Protectorado de Fundaciones Culturales. Declarada por la Xunta de especial interés para Galicia. Es una biblioteca principalmente de fondo antiguo, con fondos bibliográficos, documentales y cartográficos, desde el siglo XV. La mayor riqueza de libros corresponde a los siglos XVIII y primer cuarto del XIX. Considerada como un centro de consulta imprescindible para los investigadores de la realidad histórica coruñesa, gallega y universal en sus diversas manifestaciones. The Library of the Royal Consulate was the first public library established in the city of A Coruña, under the auspices of the Royal Consulate of the Sea and Land, with the approval of King Charles IV in 1803, and opened to the public in 1806.
