Bristol & Brooks was launched in November 1994 at 94 Oxford Street, Paddington. The founder of this start-up, Zena O'Connor, created a brand that was inspired by the Conran Store (London) and Williams-Sonoma (New York).
Due to its high calibre branding and unique design-based product mix, the store enjoyed a strong level of success and was offered a tenacy in prestigious Chifley Plaza Sydney in mid 1997, alongside major global brands including Tiffany & Co., Crabtree & Evelyn and Max Mara.
The interior design of both stores reflected a trans-Atlantic aesthetic and the branding was designed to convey a sense of the design quality, good service and consistent reliability. The Paddington store was designed by Zena O'Connor in collaboration with Iain Halliday, and the Chifley Plaza store was designed with Don McQualter of Studio McQualter.
The founder of this start-up, Zena O'Connor, sold the business to the Bogatai family in late 1999 and the Bogatai family continued the strong design-based focus of Bristol & Brooks.
