OUR MISSION: BROKEN GLASS is a company of collaborative theatre artists. Using classic texts as our inspiration, we seek to create new and original works that address and illuminate today's pressing sociopolitical issues. Our goal is to provide audiences with an extremely relevant theatre experience. We believe that our work is only as good as the conversation it provokes. --- In February 2009, a small group of NYU graduates were feeling restless. About to graduate and enter the real world, we were faced with a challenge. How can we keep working as artists outside of the classroom? Aside from the soul-crushing rat race that is our industry, how could we ensure our voices would be heard? We decided to create Broken Glass. We started meeting together, holding playreadings, running workshops. It began as a community and became a movement. In May of that year, the core company members assembled to devise an new work of theatre. Ten months later, our first original piece, DARK, was presented to the world. It was a dark comedy, a post-apocalyptic exploration of stock characters in desperate conditions. It is currently in the revision stage. After the reading we realized we might actually have something here. We wanted to take our "club" and create a company, an institution of artists that wanted to create new and important work, shake boundaries, challenge norms. Join us. Start something.
