CARBONLOCKED aims to provide a carbon storage solution that will safely store excess carbon produced as manufacturing byproducts underground.
Another increasingly concerning problem surrounds unstable oil wells and mine shafts left from resource extraction. Recent research finds that there are over 97,000 oil wells that have not been properly closed in Canada alone. In addition, reports indicate that the pace of abandonment of oil wells is only accelerating. Inactive wells increased by more than 50% from 2015 to 2020'.! (b). These underground cavities are susceptible to toxic leaks which contaminate the surrounding environment and groundwater. Using CARBONLOCKED., manufacturers will be able to effe.ctive.ly fill these underground reservoirs to prevent harmful leaks. with effective technology, CARBONLOCKED will structurally reinforce underground cavities and increase the structural integrity of surrounding areas. Additionally. CARBONLOCKED's durable chemical compound will be able to store carbon for centuries unlike current methods which have limited lifespans.
