I help ADHD adults define their passions, clarify their purpose and find their ideal career. When it comes to making major career decisions, there’s no shortage of opinions. You likely have several well meaning people in your life offering advice on your best job move. The problem is most people base their career decisions on the wrong criteria: salary, status or strengths. But you are not “most people.” ADHD adults must be passionate about their work and have a sense of fulfilment to stay engaged. While typical people can suck it up and collect a pay-check, a person with ADHD grows increasingly miserable. Symptoms flare. Bosses and co-workers notice. Nobody wins. I can relate. I have ADHD, too. With a Master’s in Counselling and emphasis on career, I have helped more than 700 people over the past 30 years. I’ve also experienced my fair share of career changes. In my 20s, I had a string of unsuccessful secretary jobs, which helped me realize that my strengths in shorthand didn’t mean I was fit for administrative work. Once I found my real life’s work over 35 years ago, I have never looked back. My work is synonymous with joy, and I will likely never “retire.” I want that for everyone. And with ADHD, it is absolutely imperative that we make a choice that reflects that joyful experience for the majority of our work day. As an entrepreneur, I founded a successful, international children’s art franchise, KidzArt, and love helping other entrepreneurs build a business from the ground up. ADHD adults are often entrepreneurial and yearn to create work life options that tap into this creative nature. I truly thrive on helping entrepreneurs, business executives and business owners explore options and/or continue to grow and clearly define his/her next steps to do so.
