Cello Bash invites cellists of all ages and levels from the community. The ensemble includes cellists of all professions - doctors, engineers, lawyers, scientists, students, teachers, professional musicians, and more. Cello Bash originated in 1973 when Berkeley cello teacher Milly Rosner planned a gathering for her students as well as the students of fellow teachers. By 1995, the annual Cello Bash grew to have 110 cellists to celebrate the joy of the cello together. For the younger cellists, this has always been an extraordinary opportunity to play new music and with a large group of cellists and mature professionals. The last Cello Bash hosted by Milly was in 2005. It reached a record of 125 cellists from all over the Bay Area sharing the stage together. Cello Bash is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that solely relies on private donations, fundraising actives, Cello Bash merchandise sales, and vendor sponsorship. All Cello Bash events are free to attend, but donations are highly encouraged and appreciated.
