Classics is anything relating to Ancient Greece and Rome - and Egypt and other Ancient cultures too. Classics subjects in Ireland include Latin, Ancient Greek, and Classical Studies. These subject are taught in a variety of schools in Junior Cycle, Transition Year, and Senior Cycle across the island of Ireland. They are wonderful subjects that combine the study of history, daily life, mythology, philosophy, art, architecture, and the literature of the Ancient World. It is a fantastic subject studying the civilizations that lay the foundations for western democracy, science, art, and literature. Students taking the subject enhance their literacy skills, grammatical and linguistic knowledge, critical thinking skills, argumentation skills, and abstract thinking. Students taking the subject will often continue with careers in business, law, government, civil service, medicinal science, film studies, journalism, science, engineering, art, and music. All learning in Classics is very transferable. It also give opportunities for students to specialize in Classics, pursuing careers in academia, teaching, museum curating, or library work. We are the subject-teacher association for these subjects. We run CPD events for teachers, fun competitions, and Leaving Cert lecture days and workshops for students. We create and provide teaching and learning resources for all students and teachers of the subject. We act as a community for all Classics teachers and students in Ireland. Connecting students, schools, and teachers of our subjects.
