De Stichting Co-productiefonds Binnenlandse Omroep (CoBO) werd in 1986 opgericht met als doel film en televisie dichter bij elkaar te brengen, net als podiumkunsten en televisie.
Daarnaast is eind jaren negentig mede door CoBO de Telefilm geïnitieerd. Telefilms zijn Nederlandse speelfilms die speciaal gemaakt zijn voor televisie, en die actuele maatschappelijke thema’s behandelen.
Na het succes van de Telefilms werd er ook voor de documentaire een dergelijk project opgezet. Een Teledoc is een lange documentaire, bestemd voor een breed publiek en met een eigentijds Nederlands onderwerp dat op een prikkelende, toegankelijke en cinematografische manier wordt verteld.
In 2013 startte CoBO samen met de NPO en NPO-fonds en het Nederlands Filmfonds met Teledoc Campus: korte (25 min.) documentaires, gemaakt door jonge regisseurs en producenten die hiermee de gelegenheid wordt geboden ervaring op te doen. Later is ook het samenwerkingsproject Zappdoc Campus (15 min.) opgericht, waarbij wij ons sterk maken voor de ontwikkeling van documentaire talent op het gebied van jeugddocumentaire.
