My name is Peter Schmidt, and since January 2021 I have been hosting the Code for Thought podcast show, a community podcast for researchers, scientists and software engineers #rse. Being a trained scientist (physics) and having worked as a software engineer for many years, this was completely new territory for me (and a little terrifying at first).
But with lots of effort and after a steep learning curve, I am pleased to see Code for Thought well established. In early 2023 it surpassed 10000 downloads in total with a monthly download of 800-1000 with a steady increase. It is available on all major podcast directories as well as YouTube and Soundcloud.
Creating, producing and hosting podcasts has been a truly rewarding and exciting journey.
So much so, that in 2023 I made the decision to dedicate all my time and energy to it. Podcasts are and remain a fantastic and popular medium. This is also true for science, research and engineering. With that in mind, I focus my podcast efforts on three main areas:
Firstly, to help research teams and projects with public engagement regarding their work.
Secondly, to provide additional material for classes and training courses (e.g. ByteSized RSE "miniseries" at #Code4Thought).
And finally, to continue supporting and promoting the RSE community.
