COMPLUS: Community Voices in Health Governance Translating Community Participation into Practice in a World of Pluralistic Health System In the ever-changing healthcare landscape of the Global South, COMPLUS stands at the forefront of health system transformation. We address the expanding healthcare delivery, especially in urban areas, driven by recent urbanisation. Notably, significant cities like Brazil and India are reimagining healthcare services, shifting towards models involving public healthcare acquisition. Simultaneously, South Africa is pioneering the implementation of the National Health Insurance, a system that bridges the public and private sectors. Under specific conditions, these transitions have shown promising signs of rapid expansion and enhanced accessibility to healthcare services in peripheral and underserved areas of metropolitan cities. At COMPLUS, we are committed to thoroughly examining these paradigm shifts, particularly the innovative fusion of public and private healthcare strategies. Our research underscores the essential role of institutionalised channels for community participation in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare systems. Our study aims to investigate how community involvement can be crucial in promoting positive outcomes that foster alignment among bureaucratic bodies, local communities, and healthcare professionals, all working towards improving population health and well-being. We aim to explore the various ways in which community involvement can contribute to the enhancement of public health and well-being.
