CompWiser Consulting is an independent compensation-consulting firm founded in the summer of 2009. As the founder of CompWiser, I established the firm in response to the growing challenges facing directors, compensation committees, and senior management of companies in the turbulent times of the current economy. It is no longer sufficient for organizations to benchmark themselves against their peers and follow the same path everyone else is treading. Today’s boards, compensation committees, and executives need to carefully consider their approach to pay programs, and how they use the various compensation tools available. Companies should take market data into consideration, but be certain to look beyond it and make wise and strategic compensation decisions. Compensation plans need to more effective in driving performance, be defensible to increasing scrutiny, and still serve the strategic needs of the organization for future success.
