Founded in 2007, DAFG advocates understanding, trust and cooperation between Germany and the Arab World on a friendly footing. The association covers a wide range of fields of cooperation, namely politics, business & economy, culture, science & education and the media. This ensures that people from very different fields enthusiastically contribute to the DAFG and its objectives. The president of the DAFG is Dr. Otto Wiesheu, former Bavarian Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology. The DAFG Advisory Board Members include the ambassadors from Arab countries to Germany by virtue of their duty. Their doyen is the chair of the advisory board. In addition to the ambassadors from Arab countries to Germany, other high-level representatives are appointed to the advisory board, including members of political parties in Germany, outstanding representatives of cultural, educational and economic institutions, and known industry executives. The DAFG is a non- partisan, non-profit organization characterized by its transparency. Politics The German-Arab Friendship Association (DAFG) promotes political exchange between Germany and the Arab countries as defined by open dialogue and peaceful understanding. Through lectures as well as panel and background discussions, the DAFG deepens the understanding of governmental, political and social structures on both sides. We work closely with the Arab states’ embassies in Germany and with all German and Arab parties and institutions that are committed to the peaceful development of German-Arab relations. The DAFG is a non-partisan organization that does not take a role as political actor or take sides in political conflicts. Economic Cooperation The principal objective of our activities in the field of economic cooperation is to further tap the potential of German-Arab relations in order to contribute to the economic development in the region. The German-Arab Friendship Association (DAFG) regards itself as a link between politics and economy in Germany and the Arab states. We provide information on economic development as well as on investment and business opportunities in the Arab countries by means of suitable events. Moreover, by organizing delegation trips, the DAFG supports the establishment of business contacts with potential clients and relevant decision- makers in the Arab world. Culture, Education & Science The German-Arab Friendship Association (DAFG) considers art and culture as well as education and science as crucial elements to deepen friendship and understanding between Germany and the Arab world. The language of art – be it literature, music or visual art – is understood beyond cultural boundaries and offers numerous starting points for a genuine cultural exchange. We want to provide a platform for Arabs and Germans to find out more about each other and get the opportunity to learn about each other’s culture in all its varieties. Media & Communication The German-Arab Friendship Association’s (DAFG) aim in the field of media and communication is to intensify the mutual coverage of German-Arab topics through establishing a network between German and Arab media and journalists. To this end, the DAFG maintains close contacts with German and Arab journalists from print media, radio and television and actively involves them in its work. Through its continuous public relations, the DAFG’s work is made transparent and publicly accessible. Our website is the central information platform for the press, cooperation partners, our members and those interested in German- Arab relations. It is the medium through which we promote our events, inform about interesting activities and document the DAFG’s work.
