Designed for peace email format

Our story began in 2015, when I invited beloved Navy families and friends to take part in a Senbazuru for Peace project as a gift to the USS Ronald Reagan prior to her homeport change from San Diego, CA to Yokosuka, Japan. According to Japanese tradition, senbazuru is a community effort to hand fold 1,000 origami cranes in order to make one special wish. Our collective wish was that the USS Ronald Reagan crew would be instrumental in maintaining peace in the Pacific region. "Peace Through Strength" ~ President Ronald Reagan Our Senbazuru for Peace project inspired me to paint a watercolor image of a single origami crane facing westward to symbolize the direction of the homeport change from the United States to her new forward deployed port in Japan. The crane is internationally recognized as a symbol for peace. I painted the National Flag of Japan on one wing, and the American Flag on the other wing. Limited edition prints of my origami crane painting were later presented to U.S. and Japanese dignitaries and special friends to commemorate the arrival of the USS Ronald Reagan in Japan.
