Die Deutsche Hydrographische Gesellschaft (DHyG) ist ein berufsständischer Verein, der sich für die Interessen der Hydrographie einsetzt und sich als Sprachrohr der Hydrographen versteht. Seit 1984 fördert die DHyG die praktische und wissenschaftliche Hydrographie sowie die nationale und internationale Zusammenarbeit. Die DHyG bietet allen Interessierten ein Forum des regelmäßigen Fachaustauschs.
Einmal im Jahr richtet sie eine Tagung aus: den Hydrographentag. Zudem gibt sie drei Mal im Jahr die Hydrographischen Nachrichten heraus, die einzige deutschsprachige Fachzeitschrift für Hydrographie und Geoinformation.
Die DHyG ist Mitglied in mehreren Vereinen und Organisationen. Durch das so entstehende Netzwerk lässt sich im Verbund mehr erreichen. Dasselbe Ziel verfolgen die Vereine, die im Jahr 2008 die „Bremer Erklärung“ abgegeben haben. Gemeinsam wollen die Vereine – neben der DHyG zum Beispiel der DVW oder der VDV – die berufsständischen Interessen gegenüber der Öffentlichkeit und der Politik vertreten. Auch werden gemeinsame Fort- und Weiterbildungen angeboten. Die Zusammenarbeit kommt allen Mitgliedern zugute.
