The Diamond Hangar is an iconic building purpose built and still Europe's largest independent commercial-aircraft maintenance centre at London's Stansted Airport.
When designed and built in 1989 the £20 million hangar was required to accommodate two 747s or up to nine 737s. All housed under a 107m clear-span parabolic space-frame roof, claimed to be the world's largest of its type. There are no roof supports to intrude into the diamond-shaped floor plan giving the structure its name, which is shaped to provide the most efficient accommodation for aircraft. It has evolved over the last 15 years following the change in aircraft throughput of the airport and customer demand on aircraft type. Ultimately its now reinvented itself as an aviation hub geared around the General Aviation market. With 10 tenants ranging from a bespoke FBO, flight catering, aircraft spares and personnel training to its own in house Engineering company (EBAS) which specialises in Bombardier and Challenger Maintenance. It really is London's one stop shop for anything that a Private Jet needs.
