DictionarySquared is an online vocabulary training program that provides a fun and interactive way to help high school students learn words and can be used in preparation for the SAT. The website has been fully developed and has been used by over 1,000 students in classrooms at four high schools for the past two years.
The site was developed based on extensive research and mimics the way the brain learns words by showing words in context and using an optimized review schedule. Students see the word’s definition, pronunciation and several snippets with the word in context. Furthermore, the website is multimedia-infused, containing video clips from popular movies and photographs that illustrate the essence of the words. The students earn points and a position on the top-10 list of their schools which makes the experience fun and competitive.
Since joining, we've written a business plan which was a finalist at the Wharton Business Plan Competition and won the Committee Choice Award for best business plan. We are members of Wharton's Venture Initiation Program (an incubator for start-ups) and recently won the Snider Seed Award, a $2,500 grant for Wharton start-ups.
