The UK faces a critical digital skills shortage. From engineers to computer scientists, the demand for digitally skilled professionals continues to grow - fast. The Digital Futures Programme was created to meet this challenge head-on.
Led by Activate Learning Education Trust (ALET) in collaboration with industry leaders across the digital infrastructure sector, Digital Futures is a multi award-winning, industry-led education initiative.
Its mission is simple but ambitious: to build a pipeline of work-ready talent by equipping students with the technical skills, experience, and confidence they need to succeed in the digital economy.
The programme works with four University Technical Colleges (UTCs), where students aged 14–18 can specialise in STEM subjects, such as engineering, computer science and IT, either alongside GCSEs or through technical qualifications equivalent to A Levels. Through a blend of classroom learning and real-world experience, students develop in-demand, transferable skills that set them apart in a competitive jobs market.
What makes Digital Futures unique is the way it embeds employers directly into school life. From co-designing curriculum content to delivering workshops, mentoring students, offering workplace visits and placements, and even recruiting apprentices; Industry partners are at the heart of the programme.
For employers, the benefits are clear: it’s a chance to shape future talent, invest in workforce development, and give back to the wider community. For students, it’s a direct line to exciting digital careers and a deeper understanding of what success looks like in the real world.
Together, we're not just preparing young people for the future, we're helping them shape it.
