De “Dutch nOcturnal and hoME dialysis Study To Improve Clinical Outcomes” (DOMESTICO) is een landelijk initiatief dat met steun van alle betrokken partijen (Nefrovisie, NFN, NIV, NVN, Nierstichting, V&VN, ZonMw industrie, zorgverzekeraars) inzicht gaat geven in de effecten van thuisdialyse op kwaliteit van leven en klinische uitkomsten in relatie tot de kosten.
Het DOMESTICO project heeft vier onderdelen:
-Prospectieve studie: het DOMESTICO project wil barrières voor thuisdialyse wegnemen door in een prospectieve multicenter studie te onderzoeken wat de effecten van thuisdialyse zijn op de kwaliteit van leven en klinische uitkomsten in relatie tot de kosten.
-Retrospectieve studie: tevens wordt er in een retrospectieve studie gekeken naar de oorzaken van techniekfalen (redenen dat een patiënt moet stoppen met thuisdialyse) om deze in de toekomst mogelijk aan te kunnen pakken.
-Good practices: ook verrichten we een project genaamd ‘Good Practices & Shared Decision Making’ dat zich onder andere richt op het proces van samen beslissen tijdens de nierfalenvoorlichting.
-Mantelzorgproject: tenslotte is het mantelzorgproject een uitbreiding van het DOMESTICO project om de ervaringen (positief en negatief) van mantelzorgers van thuis- en centrumdialysepatiënten, die meedoen aan DOMESTICO, te onderzoeken.
