Het doel van DreamH2aul is het technisch en commercieel valideren van innovatieve waterstoftechnologie voor zwaar wegtransport in drie representatieve use cases, die toewerken naar langeafstandstransport. In dit project wordt 's werelds eerste waterstof aangedreven emissievrije trekker voor opleggers ontwikkeld die binnen de huidige Europese regelgeving elke trailer mag trekken, meer dan 600 km op een tank kan rijden, en de chauffeur de benodigde slaapplaats biedt.
Om dit te realiseren wordt een zeer compacte power module voor N3-voertuigen ontwikkeld, bestaande uit een brandstofcelsysteem met extreem hoge vermogensdichtheid, een compacte waterstofopslag en een hoogvermogen batterijmodule. Deze power module wordt ingebouwd in twee N3 trekkers, die in de proeftuin ingezet worden voor 1) stadsdistributie, 2) regionaal containertransport en 3) lange afstandstransport. Door deze opbouw kunnen de technische prestaties van de trekkers worden gemonitord op steeds langere ritten, zodat ze uiteindelijk gevalideerd worden voor langeafstandstransport. Hierdoor wordt zero-emissie langeafstandstransport op basis van een Nederlands brandstofcelsysteem met grote economische potentie werkelijkheid.
Om het tanken te faciliteren omvat de proeftuin ook de realisatie van een openbare waterstoftankvoorziening op 350 bar voor logistieke voertuigen op het A1 Bedrijvenpark in Deventer (direct gelegen aan de A1 en op de North Sea-Baltic TEN-T Corridor). De twee trekkers creëren een essentiële primaire afname bij het tankstation, waar uitsluitend groene waterstof zal worden getankt. Validatie van de business cases van de ketenpartners in de proeftuin dient ter stimulering van investeringen in waterstoftankinfrastructuur en waterstofvoertuigen. Daarnaast zal het project bijdragen aan meer acceptatie en meer uniforme normen en standaarden (technisch, veiligheid, financieel) voor het gebruik van waterstof in transport.
