De Uitdaging voor Dreug is een eerlijke beloning voor varkensboeren zodat zij het eigen bedrijf kunnen verduurzamen. We verwachten allemaal van boeren om te verduurzamen. Dreug maakt droge worst van zeugen. Dit zijn varkens waar de boer biggen van krijgt. De zeugen zijn na drie á vier jaar niet meer rendabel voor de boer en zijn dus wat ouder dan gangbaar varkensvlees. De zeug wordt daardoor in de keten als restproduct gezien. Dit heeft ten gevolg dat de boer een belachelijk lage prijs krijgt. Dreug betaald voor deze varkens het dubbele van de marktprijs. Daar hangt wel de voorwaarde aan dat de meeropbrengsten worden geïnvesteerd in het verduurzamen van hun eigen bedrijf. Hier ziet Dreug dan ook op toe. Het oudere vlees leent zich uitstekend voor het maken van droge worst. Dreug werkt samen met een slager die die een dag in de week de productieruimte niet gebruikt. Daar maakt Dreug samen met de slager heerlijke Droge worst van al het vlees van de Zeug. De droge worst komt via delicatessenwinkels naar de consument.

The challenge for Dreug is an honest and fair reward for pig famers, to make them able to farm in a more sustainable way. We all expect farmers to produce more sustainable. However the farmers get offered such a low price, forcing them to choose for the cheapest and non-sustainable production process.
The Solution
Dreug makes dry sausages of sows. After 3 to 4 years these sows are not profitable anymore and provide meat that is older than normal meat. In the food chain sows are precipitated as residual product causing an ridiculous price drop for the farmer. Dreug pays double the market price for these sows under the following condition. The farmer has to invest this price premium into his farm to make this more sustainable. The older meat is perfect for producing dry sausages.
