The Department of Solar Energy (DSE) was established as a constituent school at Pandit Deendayal Energy University in October 2009 inspired by Late. Former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
The Solar Research & Development Center (SRDC) at PDEU was established as a Center of Excellence (CoE) by the government node in 2013, and has been working on the development of fundamental and applied research on solar photovoltaic, fuel cell and energy storage. Moreover, SRDC is highly involved in monitoring the performance of the MultiTechnology 1MW Photovoltaic (PV) power plant at PDEU. A PV Module Production line with R&D capability and of annual capacity of 45 MW is also established for training and educational purposes.
