Der Fachverband für Dokumentation und Informationsmanagement in der Medizin« (DVMD) ist die Interessenvertretung für alle Berufsgruppen in der Dokumentation und im Informationsmanagement in der Medizin. Das medizinische Informationsmanagement ist ein vielfältiges und teilweise noch relativ junges Fachgebiet, das im Wesentlichen vier Fachbereiche beheimatet. Diese sind Epidemiologie, Tumordokumentation, Klinische Forschung und klinische Dokumentation im Krankenhaus. Der 1972 gegründete Verband zählt derzeit rund 900 Mitglieder, darunter Privatpersonen und Unternehmen. Das Fachgebiet und die Menschen im medizinischen Informationsmanagement werden repräsentiert vom DVMD e.V.
Durch gezielte Öffentlichkeitsarbeit machen wir das Berufsbild bekannt. Wir setzen uns für hohe Qualitätsstandards in Ausbildung und Studium ein. Die fachliche Weiterentwicklung unserer Mitglieder ist uns besonders wichtig. Hierfür organisieren wir Tagungen und Workshops. Wir informieren unsere Mitglieder und die interessierte Öffentlichkeit regelmäßig durch unsere Fachzeitschrift mdi. Zahlreiche Kooperationen mit verwandten Verbänden und Gesellschaften ermöglichen uns die Bildung von Netzwerken auf nationaler und internationaler Ebene.
