E-14 Polymers, through innovative Sol-gel technology, is providing improved part and surface longevity.
(A “sol” is an extremely small solid particle—typically nanoparticle. Sol-gels are sols behaving as a liquid; vs. aero-sols which are sols behaving as a gas.)
Commercialized in the 1960’s, sol-gels were used to improve scratch & corrosion resistance on automotive parts (metal bumpers, mirrors, etc.) by coating the surface and baking it at 500F+ for an hour.
E-14 Polymers’ sol-gels consist of nanoparticles of Silicon Dioxide (SiO2 or Quartz), creating a thin layer of liquid quartz that provides an extremely hard and abrasion resistant surface. More importantly, E-14 Polymers include two important innovations:
• Our sol-gels cure in ambient conditions—eliminating the high heat cure requirement of other sol gels.
• Our sol-gels utilize silanes allow them to chemically bond to substrates for far superior adhesion vs. mechanical bonds.
E-14 Polymers' single component, low VOC offerings include:
E-14 Clear: protective crystal quartz layer that is highly abrasion, chemical, corrosion, oxidation, and UV resistant, and improves cleanability (easily removes graffiti, paints, markers [e.g., Sharpies], adhesives, stains, and gum) in gloss, satin, and matte sheens.
E-14 Prime: direct-to-substrate or inter-coat adhesion primer that removes the need to grind, sand, or profile substrates or coatings before top coating, provides strong bonding to hard-to-bond or low/no profile surfaces, and creates a molecular bridge by chemically fusing the substrate and topcoat regardless if surface is porous or non-porous.
E-14 Seal: fast-drying acrylic sealer designed to seal very porous substrates and capillaries before applying E-14 Clear, facilitating better coverage of E-14 Clear (2-3X coverage on porous surfaces) that also repels stains, water/moister, and mold from within the substrate.
