Earth Our Common Home (ECHo), is the vision of His Eminence Cardinal Peter Kodwo Turkson, Chancellor of the Academy of Sciences and Academy of Social Sciences at the Vatican.
ECHo has developed an unprecedented collaboration with the leadership of the Catholic Church in Africa, through the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM). SECAM has mandated ECHo to manage the Church's Offices of Development, and to design projects that attract impact funding and investment across the assets of Dioceses in all 54 African countries. These assets include hundreds of healthcare facilities, places of education, agricultural land, infrastructure, and forests.
Inspired by the Encyclical Letter of Pope Francis, Laudato sì: On Earth, Our Common Home (2015) calling people of all faiths, to come together as the human family and urgently respond to the debilitating force of indifference, vulnerability, marginalization, poverty, biodiversity loss and climate injustice.
Projects will deliver:
Thriving Ecosystems: We enable initiatives that protect and restore eco-systems.
Sustainable Businesses: We promote circular economy models in agriculture, healthcare, infrastructure, and clean energy, and waste management, fostering economic development.
Empowered People: We roll-out training and small business development programs, equipping communities with the skills and resources they need to flourish.
ECHo has partnered with real estate developers, health care providers, workforce development bodies, advanced transit companies ,energy & data companies, community- based organizations and the public sector to elevate models of transit oriented real estate development that enables inclusive and equitable growth. These developments will be models of climate resilience, innovation, sustainable livelihoods and economic transformation that can be used to inspire urban development globally..
