Having got its start in 2011, eco18 remains a collective of creative writing individuals with a common goal—to live a healthier more natural lifestyle and to explore sustainability, healthy living, and climate change with our readers. By covering topics like – food, farmers, sustainable living, living planet, and news – we hope to create a space to share and discuss daily ways we can incorporate sustainable change into our lives. We feature product reviews, discussions on recent environmental news, ways to celebrate climate holidays or to get involved in a movement, as well as interviews with experts in regenerative agriculture, toxicity, social change, and more. As a small publication based in New York City, we try to bring relevant sustainability tips while nurturing a close involvement with our community of readers. Since our beginning, a lot has changed. The climate, our government, worldwide uncertainty, the COVID-19 pandemic, #MeToo movement, plant-based foods, the opioid crisis, an acceleration of natural disasters, deforestation, endangered species, and a new generation demanding change – and that’s just to name a few. But as Greta Thunberg said, “The climate crisis has already been solved. We already have the facts and solutions. All we have to do is to wake up and change.” The passion and commitment of this new generation of activists inspires us to change our daily habits, and the urgency of how we do this has escalated significantly. While the worldwide pandemic kept us humans at home, allowing nature to reverse some of the damage we have wreaked, it’s only a matter of time –a short time – when the pendulum will swing back the other way again. While the key lies in replacing one habit with another, we know change is hard, but by taking too-small-to-fail actions we will be on the path of sustainable change. Change that will collectively make the difference to healing our planet and every living creature on it.
