The NGO Écoles du Monde (EDM) was created in 1997 by the film producer Charles Gassot, who is still its President today. While in Madagascar to shoot a film, he decided to get involved in order to participate in the development of the country. While many organizations work in urban areas, the main objective of Écoles du Monde is to promote rural development, so that living conditions are better and the rural exodus, which daily swells the slums of large cities, is limited.
