Eco-Patch is a social enterprise dedicated to transforming the immense challenge of textile waste into a remarkable opportunity for sustainability, empowerment and innovation. Eco-Patch was born out of the firsthand experience with the overwhelming influx of second-hand clothing into Kenya—a trade that has deeply impacted both our environment and communities. Kenya, which is the largest importer of second-hand clothes, imports over 40.5 million tonnes of used clothing annually, with up to 20 million tonnes ending up as waste. Much of this waste is non-biodegradable, contributing to environmental degradation, clogged waterways and health hazards. At Ecopatch, we recycle textile waste into high-quality and sustainable products. Our process involves collecting, sorting, washing, disinfecting and crafting these materials into high-quality home decor, fashion accessories, and construction materials such as tiles, ceiling boards and playing ground marts. Every product we create tells a story of transformation, from waste to wonder, and serves as a step toward a circular economy. Ecopatch isn’t just about the products; it’s about the people and the planet. We are committed to empowering local artisans, particularly women and youth, by providing training and employment opportunities. By turning discarded materials into valuable products, we promote economic growth and create a platform for enhancing environmental sustainability.
