Why is PPE so cheap?
..Because it’s subsidised by the environment.
EcoTextura exists to supply medical settings with environmentally conscious PPE and materials. We've created a plastic-free compostable range that performs to medical standards and ready to integrate now.
The facts:
• The majority of existing PPE is neither recyclable nor biodegradable, single-use PPE. It makes its way to landfill, lingers and partially breaks down into micro-plastics, contaminating the ocean and land life.
• In 2019, 62% of NHS’s carbon footprint (16.5 megatonnes of CO2 -eq) came from the supply chain including the products it imports.
• Each year, NHS providers produce approximately 156,000 tonnes of clinical waste that is either sent to high temperature incineration (HTI) or for alternative treatment (AT), which is equivalent to over 400 loaded jumbo jets of waste. Most of which is made from non-renewable plastics.
• From just surgical masks alone, the UK disposes over ~25,000,000 masks per week, this equates to thousands of tonnes a year of virgin plastic being thrown away.
• We know of only one other PPE producer that calculates and presents their product carbon emissions and environmental damage - this is disappointing and we need others to start doing the same.
