The Egyptian-Italian Environmental Cooperation Program (EIECP) is a strategic partnership between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Egyptian Ministry of Environment, funded by the Italian government and supported by Egypt's debt-for-development initiative.
EIECP aims at developing Egypt's protected areas (PAs) system in Siwa, Wadi El Gemal, and Faiyum protected areas, mainly with a view of establishing income-generating mechanisms.
Through Community-Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM), EIECP empowers local communities to share responsibility for conserving nature. This approach facilitates the mobilization of resources toward the financial sustainability of Egypt's PAs system, thereby supporting its conservation and sustainable development endeavors.
