We are a Purdue University-based EPICS team partnered with the Greater Lafayette Area Special Services (GLASS). GLASS's mission is to provide equitable education to students with disabilities. Our Epics team aids GLASS in its mission with three different projects: Mount, Toy Drive, and Adaptive Devices.
Mount's project partner is David Jackson, a speech-language pathologist who works for the Patins Project. Mount's project goal is to create a mechanical arm that mounts to a wheelchair to hold a tablet.
Toy Drive's project partner is Jessica Shockey, a speech therapist and GLASS educator. Toy Drive's project goal is to add adaptive switches to commercially available toys to make them easier to use.
The adaptive devices is a larger team with two sub-projects. The first project is the adaptive bowl, whose project partner is the project user. The goal is to create a bowl that assists the user with easy access and improves on a previous implementation of the bowl.
The second subproject is the adaptive buttons, whose project partner is David Jackson. The goal of this project is to create a mount with buttons that map to various functions on a handheld device accustomed to the user.
