The ESO association began as a simple chat group on WhatsApp, created by Russian-speaking students in the Netherlands looking to share advice and support each other in adapting to their new life as students. Through the efforts of the members, however, this group grew into a thriving community that cherishes its grassroots origins. The need for such an association became even more apparent when the group attempted to organize events or special celebrations. This proved difficult due to organizational challenges such as finding suitable venues, allocating and collecting common funds, and finding event dates that were convenient for most participants. As a result, the first board saw an opportunity to unite these students in a significantly more meaningful manner, broadening the horizons of what is possible to achieve as a collective. The board's vision involved organizing high-level events, founding new committees, collaborating with various associations and study programs, planning trips or get-togethers in and around Enschede, and much more. This provided members with an opportunity to network, learn from each other, and have fun while making the most of their student experience. Today, with over 200 members, the ESO association continues to uphold its values and vision, expanding the possibilities for collective achievements. The new board is committed to building on the success of the previous board and ensuring that the ESO association remains a vibrant and supportive community for Russian-speaking students in the Netherlands.
