I am a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) graduate with a Specialization in Mediation and Conflict Resolution. I have over 14 years of experience as a Private Practitioner while intermittently working with Community Mental Health Care Centers (CMHCs) in Houston, Texas, once as a Program Director. My approach to therapy is a holistic one that focuses on the entire family system, not just the distressed member. I believe and recognize that people are part of a broader system that includes family, community, work, culture, and belief systems, whether individually, collaboratively, or communally. Therefore, all interventions and solutions I create are in consideration of the presence of people's belief systems, their family of origin, and work as integral parts of their lives. Clients can have the following expectations from the sessions: A listener of stories with guidance on a journey of discovery and healing; a non-directive or directive approach dependent upon each person's fit and style; and respect for family hierarchies, especially of authority and values. Professionals can expect a proactive coach willing to address the professional's family-of-origin and organizational principles in the direction of change. Lastly, clients can expect an empathetic facilitator who is determined to highlight each person's growth areas or most disagreement areas that they want to improve. I may intermittently use simple and brief questionnaires and scales to assess or discuss these growth areas. I am EMDR-trained, and my approach to trauma treatment centers around trauma-informed care. I continue to experiment with innovative and collaborative practices, believing that the human experience is dominated by how people make meaningful conversations through the stories they tell. My approach to mediation in family conflicts is a combination of models intending to lessen conflict, foster self-reliance, build relationships and find a harmonious resolution for all parties.
