The Emotions in European Politics (EUfeels) networks brings together academics from different disciplines, policy-makers and interest representatives interested in developing their knowledge on the role of emotions in politics and policy-making. This network emerged as a follow-up of the EUfeels project (2021-2023).
The EU feels project was an Interdisciplinary Research Project funded by the Amsterdam Centre for European Studies at the University of Amsterdam. EUFeels studied how emotions and other affective dynamics shape the perceptions and development of intractable and complex societal challenges in the European Union. It focused on a variety of themes including the role of emotions in power relations among key players, how emotions affect citizens’ perceptions and the subjective construction of others as strangers. Studying the role of emotions in European Politics is highly relevant in terms of the rise of Euroscepticism and nativist populism which is strongly shaped by (masculinist) affective rationalities.
